Windows 7 End of Support

Microsoft recently announced an End of Support date for Windows 7 of January 14, 2020.  This means that on this date, Microsoft will cease to support any PCs running that Operating System, including developing and releasing new patches.

This creates a major vulnerability and can immediately remove an organization from HIPAA compliance, as the systems will no longer be supported by the vendor or eligible for updates.

Associated Risks

Any computer running this operating system installed will be completely exposed to serious hacker attacks aimed at taking control of your network, stealing data, crashing your system,  and inflicting a host of other business-crippling problems you do not want to have to deal with.

This is such a serious threat that all companies housing financial and medical information are being required by law to upgrade any and all computer systems running Windows 7 because firewalls and anti-virus software will not be sufficient to completely protect them.
